Our charter at DIBResearch.org is to compile research that can help inform strategies and advocacy for small and medium DIB precision manufacturing contractors to support their ability to serve the DIB. We believe it is essential that the precision manufacturing supply chain is healthy and robust enough to support the nation's defense industry.
CMMC was published on October 15 , 2024! The Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) submitted 32 CFR part 170, otherwise known as the Title 32 CMMC Program Rule, to the Federal Register for publication. It will become effective on December 16, 2024. Read more Here.
All that remains is the publication of the CFR 48 DFARS contracting rules and CMMC requirements will start appearing in contracts.
This new rule will substantially impact precision manufacturing companies that serve the Defense Industrial Base (DIB), likely to the detriment of many. We want to help manufacturers understand the ramifications and maximize the number who choose to stay in the DIB.
Officials at the DOD have stated that the number of suppliers in the DIB has shrunk by 40% in the past decade. This 2022 article from Defense Acquisition Magazine outlines the problem.
